Energy Gel Gets the Boost it Needs

Gamma Pharmaceuticals turns to CL&D Digital for its high-quality fast label printer needs. Here is a case study on the applications used for Jugular Energy Gel's pressure-sensitive label. In development with a new "great tasting energy booster" technology, Gamma Pharmaceuticals needed a high-quality fast label printer that could turn around short packaging runs for test marketing and use in securing retail space. They were referred to CL&D Digital and with one call, Jugular Energy Gel's pressure-sensitive label work—along with a complete range of complementary packaging and display program elements—was set in motion.

"CL&D was a critical resource that provided attractive, highly visible packaging and promotional displays to help us pull together a complete commercial program," summarizes Hao Zhang, chief marketing officer at Gamma Pharmaceuticals Inc. "The retailer not only has the choice of how he's going to buy Jugular Energy Gel, but how he'll stock and display it, too."

Fruit punch-flavored Jugular Energy Gel is available in 17-, 30- and 80-gram pouch sizes—in individual servings or in multi-pack boxes.

CL&D Digital created the pressure-sensitive labels in English and Spanish that go on the pouches, as well as the display boxes, counter displays and 6-foot freestanding displays.

The individual pouches were adhered to insert cards designed to prop up the pocket-sized product to stand vertically and be visible from a distance. "The program was so turnkey, it was almost impossible for retailers to turn us down," adds CEO Peter Cunningham. "CL&D provided everything we needed to assemble the components of the program with ease—right down to the glue dots that secured the pouches to inserts."

The original label for Jugular Energy Gel was a metalized film, but CL&D Digital gave Gamma Pharmaceuticals a sample of it and the option of moving to a clear label, which better complemented the already highly reflective silver metallic pouch surface.

"Ultimately we were able to go to the clear one with white on our label because of CL&D's technical capabilities," offers Zhang. Yet another challenge was reconstructing the 17-gram label artwork to fit the larger pouch sizes. "Our graphics people and CL&D's graphics people supported each other with great communication for a very smooth process overall."
